
Naomi Haigh’s showstoper winner ‘Tour de Yorkshire’

Jacksons Law Firm, a Corporate Partner of Butterwick Hospice Care, organised “The Butterwick Bake Off” an inter-company baking competition and grand final event to raise funds for the Hospice. Over 20 local businesses entered and the entries were judged at a grand final event on 4th June in the magnificent setting of the Grand Marquee at Wynyard Hall. Over 320 guests attended for a light afternoon tea on a beautiful June afternoon and were entertained by star compere, Paul Frost, live music from the Middlesbrough Jazz & Blues Orchestra and a panel of celebrity judges.
The panel included Pam Royle of ITV News, Duncan Bannatyne, Dragon’s Den star and entrepreneur. Eugene McCoy of The Crathorne Arms, Tracey Crammond, the millionth runner to complete the Great North Run. And the expertise of Mehdi Amiri Wynyard Hall’s executive chef. Competition entrants were of an exceptional standard and made for a tough competition. Karen Asadi and Kate Sayer from Handelsbanken won the Biscuits & Traybakes category with their impressive Bakewell slice. Julie Walker, also from Handelsbanken, won the Pies & Tarts category with her delicious Dexter beef pie. And the much anticipated ‘Showstopper’ category was won by Naomi Haigh of Yorkshire Bank. Naomi’s spectacular Tour de Yorkshire themed cake won the judges over on all criteria of taste, texture and unique design.
Success of the event saw over £10,000 raised for Butterwick Hospice Care including many generous donations. A special thank you to Printwell NE Ltd., who very kindly printed the Butterwick Cookbook, a collection of recipes donated by celebrities and on sale for £3 from Butterwick charity shops. The Butterwick Hospice provides invaluable care and advice for many vulnerable patients and their families and of course fund-raising is crucial to continuing provision. We are delighted the Bake Off was so well supported and would like to thank all involved. ”
