The charity committee at Jacksons Law Firm is, for the 2nd consecutive year, working hard to pull off another successful Bake Off event for businesses in the region to enter a baking competition to help raise funds and awareness for Butterwick Hospice.
Following the success of last year’s bake off, Jacksons offered to organise the event again this year for the Teesside based hospice. Last year almost 400 people attended from businesses around the North East including winners of the showstopper cake competition, Yorkshire Bank, and over £10,000 was raised for the charity. Other entries included Handlesbanken, Wearmouth Construction, PD Ports, Nortech and Taylor Wimpey to name a few. Celebrity judges included entrepreneur Duncan Banatyne, restaurateur, Eugene McCoy and Tyne Tees News presenter Pam Royle.
The event this year is being held at Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield on 15th June, where guests can enjoy afternoon tea, baking demonstrations, entertainment from local Jazz band KZA and judging the best bakes and prize giving. Restaurateur, Eugene McCoy, returns to the judging panel with others including Olympian athlete Chris Tomlinson from Middlesbrough, Wendy Dean, caterer to the music industry, Teesside born comedian, Patrick Monahan and a fifth judge to be announced at a later date. Guests will be entertained by star compere, Paul Frost who did an excellent job of making the event run smoothly last year.

Graham Leggatt-Chidgey, Chief Executive of Butterwick Hospice said, “Jacksons has been a corporate partner of Butterwick for the last 3 years and without the support from local businesses alike, the hospice wouldn’t be able to continue to provide the standard of care patients receive at our centres. With baking being so popular these days, the bake off attracted a lot of attention last year and we’re hoping the event will be as successful, if not more, than last year’s”.
Chris Tomlinson Olympian athlete said, “It’s so important for all of us to take a bit of time out of our busy lives to help support fantastic charities like Butterwick Hospice. I’m really looking forward to being part of the judging panel at the event in June. It sounds like a great way of raising awareness and also much needed funds for the hospice”.
Butterwick Hospice was established 30 years ago by Mary Butterwick and provides care, over three sites in the north east of England, to people suffering life limiting illnesses and offers care and support to patients’ families.
