The commercial property team at Jacksons Law Firm recently advised new owners, Jim and Sally Abbot, on the purchase of The Vane in Long Newton.
Jim and Sally bought the pub as it gave their son Andy, and his partner Emily, the perfect opportunity to practice their talents as chef and front of house manager. Having tried careers in other areas, their passion for good food brought them together whilst working in a local restaurant in Yarm. The couple now have a number of years’ experience of working in the hospitality sector and this will be their first business venture together.
The Vane has been trading for 200 years, has a traditional bar, an elegantly decorated restaurant, a beer garden, enjoying uninterrupted views over the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors and three double bedrooms. The family are working hard to make incremental improvements to all areas of the pub to compliment the good food offering.
Head chef Andy said, “It was easy to fall for the charm of The Vane with its picturesque surroundings and period features. Sourcing local, fresh ingredients we hope to offer our diners an amazing tasting experience and our ultimate dream is to make it a premier ‘drive out’ destination for dining and events whether it is a private or business occasion. We also want to keep the pub as traditional as possible and will continue to serve a wide range of cask ales enjoyed by locals and visitors alike”.
Dating back to the 18th century, when it was known as the New Inn, The Vane is only 4 miles from Stockton and 6 miles from Darlington. The family are encouraging people to visit and experience a relaxing, friendly country pub while enjoying exceptional food. They will happily welcome well-behaved dogs. With its beautiful countryside setting, it is the perfect place to stop by after a long walk, a bike ride or a long car journey.
Jane Armitage, managing partner at Jacksons said, “The team at Jacksons enjoyed working with the family and guiding them through the many aspects of buying a business. We were all impressed by the diligent way they tackled this and their desire to be involved and understand all the nuances of the transaction. It’s great to see the pub getting a new lease of life by a family who are very passionate about keeping it traditional at the same time. A combination which, sometimes, can be hard to pull off! However, having been out to visit the family and seen the improvements they have implemented, I have no doubt they will make the new venture a huge success. The location of The Vane is ideal for people travelling from nearby towns like Stockton and Darlington and ideal for me and the rest of the team at Jacksons to nip out for a spot of lunch”.
