Jacksons takes extra security measures against cyber attack

Posted on 9th March, 2021

Jacksons has gained Cyber Essentials accreditation following an IT audit carried out by risk management firm, Lawyer Checker.

Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution and Debt Recovery Toby Joel worked closely with Chris Bibby and his team from Cornerstone Business Solutions and Lawyer Checker to get things over the line.  In addition to heading up one of Jacksons’ largest teams, Toby is responsible for looking after the firm’s IT systems and ensuring that they are as secure as possible.

Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed, industry-supported scheme to help organisations protect themselves against common online threats.  The scheme is suitable for all organisations, of any size, in any sector.  In October 2014, the Government required all suppliers bidding for contracts involving the handling of certain sensitive and personal information to be certified against the Cyber Essentials scheme.

With the support of Cornerstone Business Solutions, Jacksons operates an extremely robust cyber security system and has always used the latest cyber security software to ensure the business is protected against potential threats.

Award winning IT providers, Cornerstone has been supporting Jacksons Law Firm for over four years and were on hand to ensure all staff in the firm were set up to work from home as quickly as possible when the first lockdown was announced in March 2020.

Toby Joel said, “Having the best protection against a cyber threat has always been a priority at Jacksons. Cybercrime continues to grow and evolve in response to the pandemic and we wanted to add an extra layer of protection for the firm and our clients.  We were already aware of Lawyer Checker’s commitment to supporting law firms against IT breaches, having worked with them before to check a client’s ID, by using Thirdfort, a FCA regulated business that uses a mobile app to digitally confirm a client’s identity. So it made sense for them to carry out an IT audit for us.”

Chris Bibby said, “Unfortunately, we have seen a rise in cyber-attacks in organisations of all sizes over the last few years.  If businesses do not get the right protection in place, it is simply a case of when, and not if, a threat will arise.  Jacksons has always made sensible decisions and investment over the last few years to ensure it isn’t another victim of cybercrime.”

Lawyer Checker provides exclusive risk management solutions and offers Cyber Essentials certification to safeguard law firms and their clients from cyber criminals.

Cornerstone Business Solutions is a Teesside based business working with a wide range of companies to help them switch from traditional office-based working to a home office solution utilising their IT specialists’ technical support.

Jacksons is an award-winning law firm based in the North East of England.  With its head office in Stockton on Tees, an office in Newcastle upon Tyne and office space in Sunderland it is well placed to offer legal advice to businesses and individuals across the region.  Its services include commercial property, corporate and commercial, dispute resolution and debt recovery, corporate insolvency, regulatory (including health & safety), employment, private client legal assistance, residential conveyancing and matrimonial.
