Many may have viewed the latest BBC series of TV drama ‘The Split’ and wondered themselves whether there is in fact a good divorce.
In the series, you see successful family solicitor Hannah Stern within her own divorce battle with her husband who is also in the legal profession and is a family barrister. It is questioned throughout the series whether there can actually be a good divorce without all of the hostility usually associated with divorce proceedings.
Without giving too much away, to those who have not yet had the opportunity to view The Split, it shows that there are circumstances where hostility can be pushed to one side and parties can proceed amicably and work together towards a reasonable and fair financial settlement.
The series also portrays how a divorce can affect the children of the family and that essentially, as difficult as the separation is for the parents, the children should also be a major consideration within the negotiations of settlement. Quite easily parties may become embroiled in a vicious battle over finances and lose sight of the needs of the children.
Overall, for those interested in family law or who may be going through a separation themselves, The Split provides an easy watch which is light-hearted whilst still maintaining the importance of everyday life issues and demonstrates that in some cases there can be a good divorce.
