LinkedIn is full of inspirational stories and a renewed focus on maintaining a work/life balance.
This is achievable when you have support from your employer.
A lot has been learned following the pandemic, especially hybrid working with less focus on being tied to the office and using technology more to conduct meetings via Zoom or Teams together with the court system adapting at the same time.
Understanding that employees require support in their mental and health wellbeing amongst other things.
I am reflecting over the last 12 weeks on returning to work after an absence of over a year and a half following a life changing accident. Have my priorities changed? Yes and no, I am still ambitious and want to achieve the best I can in my role. Has the accident prevented me from succeeding? No, quite simply, I understand my limitations and when I have to say no, rather than feeling guilty and a failure. This in part is due to the support from my employer who wants me to succeed, who appreciates and values their employees.
I was terrified returning to work, confidence was shattered. That said, after 12 weeks it is like I have never been away! What I have noticed is a new focus on attitudes in the workplace, taking the time to ask if you are okay, help is at hand if needed and don’t be afraid to ask for help and it is okay to say no. The positive return to work has only been possible with the support of my colleagues at Jacksons.
Whilst being recognised as a top law firm, being nominated and winning awards, which is also an amazing achievement, what is more valuable in my view, being appreciated and valued.
