A little over a year ago I blogged about another Euro final but, unlike that earlier post, it’s genuinely excellent to say that there is a future in England’s football dreaming it seems, this time. I noted the weather too as I drove to the office – no dark and dreary Shakespearean dramatic empathy on this morning after the night before. Instead: rays of light shine upon sunlit uplands….

The Lionesses have done England proud I reckon (against some fairly aggressive tactics from Germany, I must say). For the most part, they remained unrattled, kept their heads, answered the cynical play on the pitch, and demonstrated some good game management along the way – I particularly liked how they kept Germany hemmed into their corner in the last 5/10 minutes of extra time, much to the exasperation of their foes.

And they played like a team, with leadership, confidence, and self-belief. Lots to be taken away from that I feel and not just re football. We can all learn some lessons here, perhaps.

The final word goes to Chloe Kelly: “It’s what dreams are made of.”
