Unfortunately, separated parents can face conflict over contact arrangements for their children which is often heightened over the Christmas period.
Whilst Christmas is generally regarded as a happy family orientated time, many couples who are no longer in a relationship dread the festive period if it means their children are sharing time between parents. It is hoped that families can put aside their differences for the sake of the children so that a relationship can develop between the child and each parent however this is not always an easy feat.
If the parties cannot agree on contact, and if mediation is unsuccessful, then an application to court is made. Generally, the Courts view contact as essential between both parents where possible and usually welcome the parties agreeing a fair and reasonable agreement to allow quality time for all concerned however this cannot always be achieved. The Courts become extremely busy in the lead up to Christmas and parents are urged to reach an agreement as constructively as possible as it is viewed that the best interests of the children should be a decision made by those that know them best.
