An interesting read regarding the estate of Aretha Franklin.
Her sons have recently been awarded ownership of her former homes following the discovery of a ‘Will’ between some couch cushions.
Luckily, in this case the jury held the handwritten note found in the couch to be valid meaning that the singer’s youngest son will be given overall ownership of the estate.
There is still an ongoing dispute however as to how to handle Aretha Franklin’s music assets.
This is yet another high profile and high value celebrity case where family disputes and lengthy legal proceedings could potentially have been avoided if a formal Will had been put in place. It highlights the importance of making a Will using a qualified Solicitor/ Lawyer who has the necessary expertise to ensure all matters and assets are considered when preparing a Will, leaving no grey areas or any areas of uncertainty.
