At the end of June, working parents who receive Universal Credit payments will see an increase in the amount which can be claimed back for childcare costs.
Currently, the amount which can be claimed for one child is £646. This is set to jump up to £951.
For two or more children we will see an increase from £1,108 to £1,630. That’s a 47% increase!
As well as these increases, the good news keeps on coming as the Government also has plans to expand free childcare (Budget 2023: Everything you need to know about childcare support – The Education Hub (blog.gov.uk).
These plans are set to begin in April 2024, with a gradual increase over time to September 2025, by which point most working families will be entitled to 30 hours of free childcare for children who are under the age of 5.
It will be interesting to see the roll out of this expansion, and the benefit it will provide to working parents with young children.
We specialise in all kinds of family law including relationship planning, divorce and separation, child arrangement orders, as well as the protection of wealth through agreements such as cohabiting and prenuptial agreements.
