Toby joined Jacksons in 1989 and was promoted to partner in June 2009. He specialises in debt recovery and commercial litigation, including professional negligence, product liability and occupier liability claims.
Toby has handled many complex equine claims ranging from road traffic accidents to veterinary negligence cases. He acts for two of the firm’s major clients covering a wide range of litigious actions. Toby also deals with non-contentious matters, including drafting assured agricultural tenancy agreements, livery agreements and loan agreements.
Toby has been instrumental in handling property damage claims on behalf of Northern Powergrid and he has ensured that Jacksons is the only firm retained by Northern Powergrid. He has led a team who have handled over 17,000 cable damage claims for Northern Powergrid since 1994, and recovered millions of repair costs; in 2015 alone, recovering almost £1.5m. These claims cover a multitude of third parties, ranging from individuals, to small firms to local authorities and Utilities, including, National Grid, Virgin Media, Yorkshire Water, Northern Gas and Northumbrian Water.
Toby is a determined litigator with extensive knowledge of the Civil procedure rules.
The Legal 500 refers to Toby as “a leading expert on equine law and debt recovery”. It also rates Toby as a top tier litigator for Commercial Litigation.
